Trieste
Trieste is a beautiful town in northeastern Italy, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, on the Adriatic Sea, well connected to Venice, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
In the past choosed to live in Trieste some writers and poets as Ettore Schmitz (Italo Svevo), Joyce, Rilke, Saba, Slataper, Tomizza.
Nowadays, with ist Nautical Clubs and bathing establishments, Trieste is a wonderful place for people fond of sailing and water sports.
The city is surrounding by a plateau, the Carso (Karst), rich in underground capes and rocks, great for speleology and climbing.

Some important firms, well-known all over the world, have their headquarters in Trieste: Assicurazioni Generali, Fincantieri, illy caffè, Stock and a lot of international scientific establishments, as the International Centre for Theoretical Physics "Abdus Salam" (www.ictp.it), the International School for Advanced Studies (www.sissa.it), the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (www.icgeb.org), the International Centre for Science and High Technology (www.ics.trieste.it) and others important structures at Science Park Area (Basovizza and Padriciano).
In the Gulf of Trieste every second Sunday in October takes place the Barcolana, the regatta for everyone, from huge sailing yachts to small boats (www.barcolana.it).
